Wagyu!
Hi Everyone,
I have always said that we had plans on, one day, being able to sell premium beef, either organic grass-fed beef or Wagyu beef. In my opinion, the holy grail of beef would be the “organic grass-fed Wagyu steak”. Imagine the flavor and healthiness of a grass-fed beef combined with the tenderness and marbling of a Wagyu steak.
Well, I am incredibly happy to announce that this might not be just a dream. We have started our Wagyu project in partnership with the Province of Nusa Tenggara Timur and the Livestock Embryo Center located in Cipelang – Bogor, under the Directorate General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Last week, we transferred 13 Wagyu embryos into our cows for free. It is not much, particularly when you consider the fact that the protocols used in Indonesia to synchronize ovulation and allow for embryo transfer aren’t the most sophisticated or the one recommended by the specialists in Brazil, resulting in an estimated survival rate of embryos of only 20%. On the other hand, I am obviously hoping for the best and happy that the first step was taken.
If you want to see how it is done, below is the video of the embryo transfer made by the Livestock Embryo Center's team.
If everything goes well, next year we should be able to see some Wagyu cattle around our ranch in Sumba.
